“We want to open and close the casing without oil” KMβ

We want to open and close the casing without oil. We also want the parts to interlock tightly.

A manufacturer that makes numerous chemical products, K Corporation, consulted us, explaining, “We want a centrifuge for trial production, and as we will use it for multiple products, we want a specification with a casing open and close mechanism that is simple and easy to clean. Also, we would appreciate it if the centrifuge assembly were tightly interlocking, if you have such a product.” So we proposed and supplied a centrifuge equipped with a casing open and close mechanism (with handle), interlocking functions, and a cylinder that locks the top cover.

As a result of using our centrifuge, what was until now a heavy job to suspend the casing while cleaning when switching the product, can now be completed in 10s of seconds, so time, cost and workability have all been significantly improved.

Above all, we heard from the operating staff that a difficult task has been made easier, and they find it very handy. In addition, in this case, bearing in mind the machine size, we used a decelerator not an oil-pressured drive, and employed a manual open and close mechanism.
This was an oil-free open and close mechanism, so it is not a problem to use in a clean room or similar.

Furthermore, in the case of a top-discharge device, an interlocking safety device may not be installed based on its impression as a simple machine, but on this occasion, the assembly included numerous interlockings due to the customer request, and we completed a centrifuge specialized in being safer.

We received delighted feedback for a centrifuge that further contributed to the operating staff’s safety.

Key Points

Casing open and close mechanism (specification with handle to open and close)

When cleaning a machine interior, normally it is difficult to clean without suspending the casing (the centrifuge exterior), but this is an option enabling cleaning without suspending the casing by using an oil-pressured cylinder.

There are various drives such as oil-pressured, electrically driven or manual, but there are cases as in this kind of example, where a manual open and close mechanism is adopted due to the machine size, and electric power is not required.

The interlockings

① The machine cannot operate if the casing is not closed (detected by a limit switch)

② The machine cannot operate if the top cover is not closed (detected by a limit switch)

③ The machine makes an emergency shutdown if abnormal vibrations occur (detected by an abnormal vibration device)

④ Employs a cylinder that locks the top cover
→ the machine is equipped with a cylinder that locks the top cover, and as the cylinder expands as the machine is operating, it physically prevents the top cover from opening.
The detection itself is based on the number of revolutions.

By installing the interlockings described above, operation in a dangerous state is prevented, and so the operator’s safety can be ensured.
