A pharmaceutical manufacturer, T Corporation, consulted us, explaining,“We want to do something about the high costs of tests with expensive samples. Is it not possible to carry out a filtration separation test with a small amount of sample?” So we proposed the LAC centrifuge for use in research and development, with which it is possible to carry out a thorough filtration test with a thick cake attached even with a small sample.
Before scaling up to actual manufacture, it is necessary to confirm whether or not filtration is possible with a cake (the solid after filtration) attached thickly as with a production machine.
With the usual basket centrifuge, at least 20 liters of sample are required for a filtration test.
Therefore, we proposed the LAC centrifuge for use in research and development, with which it is possible to carry out a thorough filtration test with a thick cake attached even with a small sample.
As a result of using our centrifuge, it was possible to conduct the test with a much smaller amount of sample than usual, which led to a shortened test time, and increased the efficiency of pharmaceutical filtration separation tests.
The supplied LAC
In the usual centrifuge, 20 liters (20,000 milliliters) of sample was required, but with the LAC400, 400 milliliters of the sample is enough to carry out a filtration test.
By reducing the amount of filtration samples, the filtration time is also shortened, and so the testing time is also reduced.
In addition, the device has a transparent basket enabling visual confirmation of the filtration status, so data logging is also possible during centrifugal separation.
Key Points
Thin basket
As the basket is thin, even a small amount of sample can be tested by adding a cake thickness with a filtration resistance assuming actual production.
Transparent basket
Since the filtration process can be viewed from the upper part of the centrifuge, it is easy to identify the filtration speed or the cause if the filtration is not progressing as expected, leading to shortened test times.
