We want to melt aluminum chips and re-use the metal

An aluminum parts manufacturer, N Corporation explained to us, “We want to re-form aluminum by melting aluminum chips containing water-soluble oil in a melting furnace.” So we proposed and supplied our M Series centrifuge for deoiling cutting chips.

After introducing the centrifugal deoiler, N Corporation were able to remove oil with the centrifugal deoiler alone, without using a rotary kiln. This kept costs well down, below the initial budget even, and N were able to re-form aluminum by melting aluminum chips containing water-soluble oil in a melting furnace.

The M Series centrifuge for deoiling cutting chips proposed to the customer

Key Points – 99.9% oil removal

99.9% removal of water-soluble oil deposited on aluminum chips

N Corporation considered using a rotary kiln to cast off the water-soluble oil deposited on the aluminum chips, and then inserting the cutting chips into a melting furnace, but they were focused on cost-performance so asked us if it were not possible to remove the oil with only a deoiling centrifuge.

At this point, we actually received aluminum chips from the customer and ran an oil removal test in our deoiling centrifuge.

Test results

Deoiling run time: 10 minutes
Quantity of chips inserted: ≒24.62kg
Quantity of chips collected: ≒24.01kg *Including 2.24kg of cutting chips in the basket
Quantity of oil collected: ≒0.28kg

The deoiled cutting chips were baked at the customer site, and on measuring the difference in weight with dried cutting chips, the proportion of oil contained was found to be 0.1%.
Proportion of oil removed in test: 99. 9%
Based on these test results, N Corporation introduced the proposed M Series centrifuge for deoiling cutting chips.
